This tool is a 15-page booklet from me to help you provide culturally competent services to the LGBTQ+ community, including the following: LGBTQ+ Terms Glossary, Resources for Clinicians, Resources for Clients (US-based and NYC-specific), and Words and Behaviors to Avoid, and Ways to Create an Affirmative Practice and Space for Your LGBTQ+ clients.

Several studies have shown that cultural competency trainings in general (Asnaani & Hofmann, 2012; Sue, Zane, Nagayama Hall, & Berger, 2009) and regarding the LGBTQ+ community in particular (Bidell, 2013; LaViolette, 2013; Leyva, Breshears, Ringstad, 2014) has a significant positive impact on social workers’ and mental health clinician’s skills, knowledge, and attitude towards marginalized populations.
