Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment? Reach out to me at therapy@rachelharlich.com and tell me a bit about what's bringing you to therapy at this time and I'll send you a link to book a free phone consultation if we seem to be a good match.

Where do sessions take place? All sessions take place via a HIPAA-compliant video telehealth platform. Clients are given the link for video sessions after filling out their client portal and policy agreements.

Do you accept insurance? I am not in-network with any insurance. I am happy to provide superbills for clients to submit for out of network reimbursement. I recommend calling the number on the back of your health insurance card and confirming your out-of-network reimbursement benefits for psychotherapy.

Why don't you accept insurance? There are several reasons why I don't work with insurance companies: 1) Whenever we bring a third party into therapy, confidentiality changes. Insurance companies require practitioners and patients to provide information throughout therapy to prove "medical necessity" and this can include very sensitive information. 2) Insurance companies often dictate the type of modality and interventions as well as duration of therapy. It also requires formal diagnosis. This would significantly limit your healing journey and I fully believe that you deserve as much control over that journey as possible. 3) By not taking insurance, I can keep my caseload lower and dedicate more time and attention to supporting the clients I do have and I firmly believe this results in higher quality care. I would much rather cut out these third parties and offer a sliding scale whenever possible. This truly feels like the most sustainable and ethical option for myself and my clients.

How much is therapy? Individual therapy is $225 and couples therapy is $300. Polycules are $300 for the first two members and $80 per additional person in treatment. What is your cancellation policy? Appointments can be canceled or rescheduled 72 hours in advance. Cancellations with less than 72 hours notice require payment of the full session fee.

What forms of payment do you accept? All clients are asked to keep a credit or debit card on file. Many FSA/HSA cards can be put on file as well, as long as a credit card company is backing the account. A good way to tell is if there is a major credit company logo on the card. The card will be charged at the time of service and for missed appointments as per the Cancellation Policy.

What happens with my protected health information? Protected health information is stored in a web-based, password protected, HIPAA-compliant system. Health information is confidential and will not be shared with any other person, entity or institution without express written consent. However, if a client expresses an intent to harm themself or any other person, or discloses information I am mandated to report, I will take steps to protect them or others as required by law including contacting family members, mental health services, or law enforcement.

Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act) You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give their patients or clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
